the weekend

Hi Blues Club friends --

Here are a few upcoming shows that we've heard about for this weekend. It's a good idea to double-check the info before heading out to a show though -- since things can change, or we could make a mistake on an event (though we try not to!)

First off, Cowboy Mouth is playing at the Windjammer on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. They are more rock than blues, but they do put on a great live show. It's $20 on Fri and Sat, $15 for the Sunday show.

On Friday night the 19th at Home Team on Sullivan's Island (formerly Bert's Bar) will be Robert Paige and the Holy City Sinners for some raucous blues. Also on Friday night, Petty Thieves (a Tom Petty tribute band) will play at the Home Team BBQ in West Ashley, performing the entire album "Full Moon Fever" -- could be fun!

On Saturday the 20th, our friends in the Wyatt Garey Band will perform at 6pm at Island Times Beach Surf Shop on the Isle of Palms, donation accepted but not required. And also at 6pm the Whisperjets (teens from Wando with a great rock/jazz sound) have a cd release party at 52.5 Records downtown. Later on Saturday night, our friend Stuart All-Night Johnson will play with his band Allnightkungfu at the Village Tavern: the first band to play is Campfield, then Allnightkungfu, then Vertigo.

On Sunday the 21st, Robert Lighthouse plays at 7pm at the Circular Church, 150 Meeting Street, downtown, for $10.

Don't forget to come down to Dough Re Mi on Tuesday night for the jam -- last week was excellent, with plenty of old friends and new faces as well, and a good time was had by all! Wednesdays you've got either the Awendaw Green barn jam, or the jam at Bowens Island with Smoky Weiner and friends, 8pm. Thursdays there's Tim Shaw's jam in Summerville, and Tommy Thunderfoot and the Accelerators at Fleet Landing at 10pm in downtown Charleston-- both Thursday events are weather permitting.

Also on Thursday the 25th, the Kings of Thieves with friends Rob Lowe, Sammy Derrick and John Shafer will play at the Joe Riley Stadium from 7-9pm for the kickball finals, and your $5 gets you all the beer you want, so I've heard.

And a brief heads-up for the following weekend: I would strongly advise a trip to Awendaw Green on Sat the 27th for the Sea Turtle Relief benefit -- our friend Jeff Norwood will play, along with the Whisperjets, Webb Wilder, and an awesome band called Holy Ghost Tent Revival -- don't miss it!
