Exciting times for the Lowcountry Blues Club

Hi All --

In case you haven't heard, the Lowcountry Blues Club elected new officers and board members at our meeting in early October. When you see these people you can thank them for agreeing to work to make our club even better: Tim Shaw is the new President, Stuart Johnson is Secretary, and Kelly Homan is Treasurer. And don't forget to thank Greg Cooper as the outgoing President, Lua Wells as outgoing Secretary, and Rob Lowe as outgoing Treasurer. In my next post I'll give you the details on all the new and continuing board members as well.

As a board we hope that the upcoming year will bring lots more wonderful Tuesday night jams at A Dough Re Mi, and the possible expansion of blues jams and/or shows in other venues around town as well, so more people can be exposed to the wonderful talents that we have in our club. We discussed the possibilities of an outdoor festival or two -- the sky's the limit! We also hope to have many new members of the club, in addition to keeping our current members, of course.

We also have new writers for this blog (the weekly emails) starting soon. And we're still looking for a volunteer to take over the job of keeping up with our Myspace page -- just write to us at lowcountrybluesclub@gmail.com if you're interested in helping out in this or another capacity.

Okay -- you want to know what's going on this weekend? Friday night Oct 16th finds Drink Small doing a solo acoustic show at Home Team BBQ/Sullivans Island. Then on Sat night the 17th, Drink does an electric/band show at Home Team/West Ashley, while Jeff Norwood & Backbone take the stage at Home Team/Sullivans.

There are some other special things going on Saturday as well. Shinefest is a noon-9pm benefit event at the Joe Riley Ballpark. The Whisperjets start off the music at noon, followed by multiple acts such as Sol Driven Train, The Original Wailers, and Blues Traveler. See www.shinefestcharleston.com for all the info regarding tickets ($40/$45) and such.

Or if you're in the mood for a road trip, there's a free blues fest in Columbia on Saturday. See www.columbiabluesfestival.com for details.

FYI, I always get lots of great info about music events from the Charleston City paper, so make sure you check that out each week. And I recommend that you sign up to get emails from Shrimp at www.shrimpcityslim.com, if you haven't already, because he always has a lot of blues info to share -- more than I can cover each week.

Lastly, I have to say that I hope you made it out to Rocktoberfest this past weekend, because that was an awesome music festival!! Our own Stuart Johnson ran the Moultrie News Porch Stage, doing sound for four days straight, and STILL managed to come help out with our weekly jam on Tuesday night -- that's dedication!! (Or insanity!) Dan Wright Trio, Skye Paige, Wyatt Garey Band, Stuart, The Fabulous Porch Dogs, and Cole Train all performed at the fest and showed off their stuff, and made us proud!

So have fun this weekend, be safe, and come on out Tuesday night for the LBC jam, 8:30ish, A Dough Re Mi.
