THANK YOU

Thanks for the Magic!

As many of you now know, after four years in this Lowcountry paradise, I am being relocated once again back to Michigan. Detroit. This Sunday will be my final Blues Jam and I hope to share the stage with all of you one more time. Once again, I’ll state that nearly everyone that I have met and everything that I have done in South Carolina can be credited to being turned onto the Lowcountry Blues Club – a very heartfelt thanks again to Mike Davis from Ye Olde Music Shop for turning on the light. It’s truly been a life changing and life affirming experience.

I’ve looked back on some of the blogs I’ve written and some of the BIO’s that I’ve shared. There has certainly been a reoccurring theme: Family, camaraderie, love and friendship. It couldn’t be more true! I’d like to add words like “class”, “character” and “community”. The complete generosity that I have witnessed over and over has been nothing short of incredible. I can’t imagine meeting a better class of people. It has truly been an honor and a privilege.

And the talent? Beyond my wildest expectations - extraordinary, world class talent! Wow. To share stages with all of you has really been a magical experience. The supernatural communal intimacy and non-verbal communication of creating has been an incredible natural high. From the looks in your eyes and on your faces to the words of appreciation and encouragement, you’ve fed my soul. Describing a Blues Club Jam, one of you mentioned that there is nothing like receiving validation from a roomful of peers. It really can’t be described. Although, I do have an example: following a set at Home Team BBQ, none other than the one and only Johnny Mac shook my hand and said, “Well, that didn’t suck!” Coming from the Rev. Dr. Mac, that meant a lot to me.

So, thanks to ALL of you. Thanks to all the jammers, the LBC board (past and present), all the house band members and all who came to bear witness. Special thanks again to Mike Davis, also Captain Kirk, YoungMi, J.R. Getches, Jonathan Robinson, Jojo and Poppa, Ryan Lockett, Jig Wiggler, The Mason Dixon Band and so, so, so many more!

When I moved here, I hadn’t played in over 10 years. I can’t fathom being away from it again. So, I have contacted the Detroit Blues Society and look forward to getting involved there ASAP. Maybe the biggest compliment I can pay you is that I deeply regret all of the gigs we did NOT get to play.

John Lennon said; “When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy". They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.” So, thanks for presenting me with the key!

Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)
