For those of you who may have forgotten Dan Wright and the New Beat, along with Sarah Cole will be traveling to Memphis on January 20th to compete in the International Blues challenge, and you can go with them . The Jason Ricci Show at A Dough Re Mi has unfortunately been cancelled, but there is a Highway 17 Blues Band show on December 19th, starting at 9:00 p.m. with a five dollar cover charge.

Greetings Blues Babes! Lots of info to share with ya’ll this week. Our Holiday season has started with a Big Blue Bang!
As ya’ll know, every Tuesday is jam night at Dough Re Mi, and I missed the boat by not getting this blog notice sent in time. Mea Culpa and 100 lashes with a wet noodle!
So, the Quebec Societe de Blues, in an effort to promote Quebec blues in Canada and the US, want us to know that they will be holding a concert in Quebec on December 1st. This event is to celebrate the participation of 25 Quebecois Blues Groups, including the duo of Claire “Lady Blues Theriault and Denis Viel; in the Memphis International Blues Challenge in January (in Memphis, of course!). If you happen to be in Quebec next month, pop in and show your support!
Our own SHRIMP CITY SLIM will be tinkling ivories (or is it tickling the ivories??) all around our fair state this week. On THURSDAY the 3rd, the SHRIMP CITY SLIM TRIO guys will be in GreenWOOD at TW Boons! The next day, Friday the 4th, the SHRIMPS will play with Wonderful WANDA JACKSON in GreenVILLE at the Brown Street Club. This makes for a happy combination of vocals and outstanding instruments done right by people who really enjoy what they do! (they may hold the keys to happiness in their hot little hands…) Finally, Saturday the 5th, the SHRIMPS will be back in Mount Pleasant at Dough Re Mi, seasoning the pizza with their spicy blues. So, here is my conundrum for the week. I personally think that Blues and Jazz are two distinct types of music. However, the rest of the world likes to lump them together. I decided to include the following information based more on fear of what we might miss, then certainty that the events belong in our Blues Blog. Better safe then sorry…

Just to make absolutely sure that we get our Blues on the 13th, catch David ‘Honeyboy” Edwards, Grammy winner for ’the best traditional blues album‘; on the Today Show and the NBS Nightly News Segment (info on Honeyboy can be found at his website, http://www.davidhoneyboyedwards.com/default.asp).
And while we are wondering about Jazz, The College of Charleston and the Charleston Jazz Initiative just got a donation of music and songs written by a local boy, Robert Spann Cathcart, Jr., between 1920-1960. The music provides insight into the culture, music and society of Charleston during this time frame, and is supposed to contain some cool blues tunes. Thanksgiving weekend and more

Here's hoping everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving! And we hope you'll come out to A Dough Re Mi the next night, Friday the 27th, for the Lowcountry Blues Club's Holiday Food Drive. The cover is just $5, or two cans of food, and will benefit East Cooper's Meals on Wheels -- and the party will feature some of our favorite blues jam players. It looks like there will be an early set with Dan Wright and Landon Moore from 8-9pm, then more great music on into the night. Bring your instrument if you want to play. . .

We had another great jam this past Tuesday, and look forward to another one on Tuesday, December 1st. And because it's the first Tuesday of the month, we've got our monthly LBC meeting as well, starting at 7pm at the Dough. Come out and meet the blues club board members, and add your ideas to the mix. We'll surely be discussing the upcoming International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. The club's representative in the Challenge will be Dan Wright and the New Beat, and in the Youth category will be Sarah Cole's new band. Some Blues Club members (and maybe you?) are planning to go along to cheer these guys on and have a party in Memphis!

We missed our faithful drummer Greg Levkus this past Tuesday, as his father was in the hospital, so we want to send along our best wishes to Greg and his family. And we appreciated Captain James Kirk stepping in and setting up his drum kit for the full night of music (which lasted till well past midnight!)

Last but not least, we want to invite anyone who has not yet done so, to become a fan of the Lowcountry Blues Club on facebook. There are two sites set up, but you want the one that has a picture of a guitar on it. Then you'll get reminders about the Tuesday night jams, and other special events like the Friday night party at the Dough. And I'll mention now that you want to put a couple of December shows on your calendar while we're talking about special events. On Dec 5 at the Dough are our friends the Shrimp City Slim Trio, 8pm, only $5 -- a real deal! And on Dec 11 at the Dough will be the totally amazing Jason Ricci and New Blood, $12, and sooo worth it!! Just ask someone who's seen him perform before, and they'll tell you that you don't want to miss this show!

Thanks for the big crowd at Home Team Tuesday night, we had a great party and jam for Nature Boy Nik’s B-day! Here are some blues gigs for this weekend, November 19th - 22…..

The Lowcountry Blues Club Memphis Fundraiser is this Thursday at Home Team BBQ, Sullivan’s Island . Skye Paige and the Original Recipe will kick the night off at 9:30 PM and my band, Dan Wright and the New Beat will perform a set of brand new, original music from 10:30 to 12:30. The cover is $5 and all of the funds will be used for the Lowcountry Blues Club’s trip to the International Blues Challenge in January. We’ll have special guests Trey Cooper on keys, Fred Hale on percussion, and Matt Kearney (from the Holy City Sinners) on sax. CD’s will be for sale for $3.

Savannah-based blues-rock trio Hitman — singer/guitarist Brett "Hitman" Barnard and the rhythm section of bassist Maggie Evans and drummer Marc Corday — blast through an amped-up set of Hendrix, Clapton, the Allmans, and a few original compositions. 9 p.m. $5 At A Dough Re Mi in Mt. The Charleston Jazz Orchestra, Charleston’s own resident big band will close out its inaugural season with A Suite Holiday, Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 7pm at the band’s House of Swing at Charleston Music Hall, Charleston, SC. Doors open at 6pm.

It's may be Friday the 13th, but don't let that keep you away from a Blues weekend.

First off if yous didn't get to see the National Slide Competition and Festival at A Dough Re Mi Saturday, then you really missed out. Along with the competitors host Skye Paige performed a rocking set, and Conrad Oberg really ended the thing on a bang.

Friday at A Dough Re Mi The Highway 17 Blues Band will be performing starting at 9:00 with a $5 cover charge.

On Saturday November 14th from 1-5 PM, the Blessing of the Vines at Irvin House Winery and Firefly Vodka Distillery, in Wadmalaw, Smoky Weiner & the Hot Links will perform, and this will be paired with a chili cook off competition all for $5 a car.

Next Thursday Dan Wright and the New Beat will join up with Skye Paige at Firey Ron's Home Team BBQ for a benefit for the Lowcountry Blues Club. It starts at 9:30 and is 21+ with a $5 Cover charge so get out to Sullivans Island and support the club

Greetings there Blues babes!! I never in a million years woulda thunk there were this many Blues events going on in the Lowcountry at one time! So gird your loins and fasten your seatbelts - it's going to be a bumpy ride!

Today being Tuesday, we'll start at the top and you will see - there are more then enough Blues Events to keep our blues-lovin'-behinds out of trouble this week.

November 3rd, Tuesday 8:30ish A Dough Re Mi hosts our weekly jam. The more the merrier, and what better chance to meet other members of our club?

Shrimp City Slim takes the horror out of hump day at the Mad River Bar and Grill. You can't beat the price - free is fantastic! With 11 venues and 24 shows, the 1st Pee Dee Blues Bash will be the beginning of a beautiful thing.

If you can't make it to Florence this weekend there is plenty to do closer to home.

November 6th, Friday, trot yourself down to the Circular Church on Meeting Street at 7:00. Go to Church!! No more excuses with events tailor-made for us. Shrimp City Slim put the blues in the pews, with the 'Blues :Unplugged series. We can look forward to some cool acoustic tunes to kick off the cool weather.

Saturday the 7th should find you at A Dough Re Mi for the National Slide Guitar Festival and Competition. The event starts at 6, but you might want to go early to snag a good spot. The 5$ cover will be well spent to hear these guitar heroes.

Finally, if you are looking to give back to the community, check this out: Local Music on the Farm, Sunday, November 8th, 12-5. http://localmusiconthefarm.com/. Skye Paige and a raft of local bands will be making music on the Farm stage. Good food, good eats, good bands, good cause - sounds like a good time.
