Charity Blues Jam - Fri Nov 28 - A Dough Re Mi

The Lowcountry Blues Club is proud to host its 2nd annual charity blues jam at A Dough Re Mi in Mt. Pleasant, SC, on Friday, November 28th.

It's the day after Thanksgiving, and we're already sick of Turkey and shopping. And a few of us are probably sick of family as well.

So what's a blues lover to do... well we call our friends, meet up at A Dough Re Mi, have some killer pizza, and we throw a jam! Not just any jam, but the mother of all jams!! And everyone is invited!!!

Last years day after Thanksgiving jam was epic. In fact, it was so epic, we ran out of time! Those darn pesky 2AM closing laws got the best of us. So this year, we're starting an hour earlier at around 8PM, but feel free to come by at time during the evening.

And just like last year, we have a cover charge. You need to bring 2 cans of canned food. That's it. Just two cans. And if you forget, run next door to the Piggly Wiggly and pick up a couple of cans.

All the food collected will be given the East Cooper Meals On Wheels program. The folks at Meals On Wheels do good things, and we're here to help those folks continue to do good things. We collected lots of cans last year, and this year we're looking to collect more.

So other than bringing 2 cans of food, what do you need to do? You need to bring your love of pizza, your love of the blues, and if you're a musician, bring your instrument.

Because we love blues music, and we love to play the blues with everyone that we can. So make certain to bring your instruments, and get signed up on the musician jam list near the stage.

And if you don't play, please come anyway. The food goes to a good cause, you'll help support a local business, and the jam is going to be great.

In addition to the charity nature of the jam this year, we're also celebrating our recent acceptance in the Blues Foundation as an official blues society of the Charleston, SC, area. So we're asking all our friends and club members to swing by and celebrate with us. Some of the best musicians in the region are some of our members, and we'd love to have our entire family there to celebrate.

If you have any questions, please feel to email us at lowcountrybluesclub@gmail.com.

If you don't know where to find A Dough Re Mi, they are located at:

A Dough Re Mi
1220 Ben Sawyer Blvd, Suite H
Mount Pleasant, SC 29464

And everyone, have a happy and safe Thanksgiving, and swing by the charity jam on Friday night to enjoy the evening with good friends and great music.

The jam starts at 8PM, but come early and socialize.

Happy Thanksgiving

Everyone have a happy and safe Thanksgiving. And we'll see you at 8PM on Friday night at A Dough Re Mi for the charity blues jam. Bring your friends, 2 canned food items, your love of the blues and pizza, and your instruments. It's going be fun!

No Jam Tuesday - Charity Jam Friday

It's the week of Thanksgiving, and we're not going to have our normal Tuesday night Jam this week. Instead we are having our 2nd annual Meals On Wheels Charity Jam on Friday night.

The Friday night jam is much like our other jams, except there is a cover charge of two canned goods. All the donated food items will be given to the East Cooper Meals On Wheels program, to help feed those who can't really feed themselves.

So come on out to A Dough Re Mi, help support a good cause, eat some good pizza, and enjoy hearing some of the best musicians in the region play the blues.

The jam starts at around 8PM, but feel free to come early and socialize.

Meeting And Jam Tonight

The air is getting chilly. The nights are getting longer. We've elected a new President. Gas prices are dropping. And the stock market is fluctuating daily.

There sure is a lot of change and uncertainty out there. But, it's nice to know that some things stay the same.

The Lowcountry Blues Club is still meeting every Tuesday at A Dough Re Mi at 7PM. The jam still starts around 8PM.

We still attract some of the best musicians in the area. Our old friends stop by. The teen musicians are always improving and trying out new matetial. New friends come by to add a new spark to the fire. And A Dough Re Mi still has some of the best food in town.

And it still costs nothing to just come and hang out with us. You can join the club if you want, but we're not pushy. We love having you there to share the experience.

So stop by and see us. Bring your friends, your instrument, and your love of the blues. We'll do the same.

Momma Fest 2008

by Tommy Thunderfoot

10 years ago an amazing thing happened in Charleston - that's right 10 years ago - the opening of Momma's Blues Palace. The joint was jumpin' every weekend and lotsa people got their education in the blues in that room. You never knew who would show up to jam there - Juke Joint Johnny, Smoky Weiner, Keith Namm, Pony Tail John - and those were just the local legends... Needless to say, it was a great time to be in Charleston over the next 6 years. When the club closed, it was an end to an era, launching the people who played on that stage,as well as the fans of the club, into the surrounding area trying to keep the music and vibe of the Palace alive. Momma and Dupree have entered into a semi-retired mode, waiting for their chance to pounce on the scene and breathe new life into a once thriving, art loving city. With the over abundance of cover bands, dj's, and karaoke, there's no time like now. It seems if you're not playing what the juke box is playing, you're not welcome in the music scene in Charleston. It's official, everybody is playing guitar hero, nobody's listening!!!!!!!

Flash forward to the present, some venues around town have closed their doors, others are on the verge of doing the same, cover bands are a dime a dozen, and creativity has taken a backseat to carbon copy garage bands. Is there no end to the madness????????

Enter one of the most amazing nights of music you've experienced in years, happening in a venue with a history including being the only place to party in town 'til the sun came up, and you have the revival of art in music - I'm gonna go out on a limb and call this - MOMMA FEST 2008!!!!!!!

Jo-Jo has been pounding away at the music scene here, growing, changing, writing and building a fan base for years, his band - the Voodoo Junkie's - do it like it oughta be done. Being the "Olympic sized gene pool" that he is, Momma and Dupree couldn't be more proud of their Legacy, also known as "the 401k plan." Come see what JoJo beez cookin' up!!!!!!

TT&A, what can I say,we have been around, made numerous changes, written too many songs to play in one night, and plan to hold up the tent poles for this revival as best we can. I learned to play by hangin' around this family and LISTENING!!!! One thing you can bet - WE AIN'T HOLDIN' NOTHIN' BACK!!!

Momma and Dupree - without them no JoJo, no Tommy Thunderfoot, no show!!!!!!! These are the two people you wanted to see every weekend because, even if they played the same song two weeks in a row, they gave it all they had to make it new and exciting - EVERY SONG,EVERY TIME!!!!!

They taught me the spirit of the jam, true musicianship, and when they thought I'd learned enough, set me on my own journey. I'll never be able to pay them back for what they've given me and helped me achieve. If you've heard them, talked to them, visited with them - ever-, then you know what I mean.

So, you're not just gonna get an amazing show Friday night, you're gonna see musical evolution - even the highest paid cover band in town can't give you that - well maybe if they filmed the show, then copied it later - that would be something, right?

Make your plans, tell your friends and neighbors, and bring your weary souls to the Oasis, this Friday night for the musical revival you'll be talkin' about for years to come. IT'S TIME TO TAKE BACK OUR TOWN FROM MEDIOCRITY AND MINDLESS BACKGROUND NOISE.WE NEED YOU TO SUPPORT CREATIVITY IN MUSIC AND LIFE BECAUSE YOU ARE THE WORLD AND WE ARE JUST THE PAINTERS.
