Upcoming Shows - 17 October 2008

Got another great week of music ahead.

Kicking things off on Friday night is Hitman at A Dough Re Mi. If you haven't seen Hitman before, then you are missing one of the best blues guitar players in the Southeast. Think Hendrix, Think Clapton, Think Johnson, and roll them all up into one dynamo and you have Hitman.

Then on Saturday, the Lowcountry Blues Club songwriting competition takes place at A Dough Re Mi. If you haven't signed up already, please get in touch with Tommy Thunderfoot (www.tommythunderfoot.net) and let him know that you to compete. The winners this week will play a paid gig next week at A Dough Re Mi.

Also this weekend is Rockoberfest at Awendaw Green on Saturday and Sunday. Among the few dozen acts scheduled to play, at least three acts that are blues club veterans will be taking the festival by storm - Allnightkungfu, Jeff Norwood, and Slanguage.

In addition, if you just happen to be in Macau, China this weekend, stop by and say hi to Shrimp City Slim at the MacauSoul.

Then next week, the Lowcountry Blues Club has their weekly meeting and jam at A Dough Re Mi on Tuesday. Always a good time and some of the best music in the states is played every Tuesday on the Big Slice - aka the A Dough Re Mi stage.
  • Fri 10/17, Hitman at A Dough Re Mi
  • Fri 10/17, Shrimp City Slim at MacauSoul - Macau, China
  • Sat 10/18, Lowcountry Blues Club Songwriting Competition
  • Sat 10/18, Shrimp City Slim at MacauSoul - Macau, China
  • Sun 10/19, Shrimp City Slim at MacauSoul - Macau, China
  • Mon 10/20, Shrimp City Slim at MacauSoul - Macau, China
  • Tue 10/21, Lowcountry Blues Club Jam at A Dough Re Mi
Like I said, another great week of music.

Upcoming Shows - 10 October 2008 - Update #2

The confusion is now resolved, and again, I apologize about the confusion.

I have spoken with Tommy Thunderfoot and have the information regarding the Lowcountry Blues Club Songwriting Competition and the shows at A Dough Re Mi tonight, Saturday, October 11th.

First, there is no Songwriting Competition tonight. However, the Songwriting Competition will be next Saturday, October 18th, with the winners having a paying gig on Saturday, October 25th. The competition and gig will both be at A Dough Re Mi.

As for tonight, Tommy Thunderfoot is inviting a few other musicians to come and play at A Dough Re Mi with him. The lineup currently include Tommy Thunderfoot (Tommy Thunderfoot & The Accelerators), JoJo Wall (JoJo & Voodoo Junkies, Mama's Blues Palace), Gary Wright (Lowcountry Blues Club Jam), Skye Paige (Skye Paige & The Original Recipe), and a mystery drummer.

The show starts at 9PM and is is a free show with lots of great talent.

Upcoming Shows - 10 October 2008 - Update #1

I believe that I may have jumped the gun and erroneously reported the events happening at A Dough Re Mi on Saturday, October 11th. I will be contacting folks handling the Songwriting Competition and A Dough Re Mi booking and find out exactly what is going on. I will post the information once I have it.

To keep up to date about what is going on for Saturday night at A Dough Re Mi, please visit our blog site at http://lowcountrybluesclub.blogspot.com and I will post a message there with the correct information once I have it.

Those of you getting this message via email, also please check the blog site as the email from the blog entries can only be sent once a day, and it is possible that the corrected information may not be mailed out until Sunday.

I apologize for the confusion, and will have this cleared up as soon as possible.

2009 Memphis Road Trip And Battle Of The Bands Update

Just to let everyone know, we've received great response from the idea of 2009 Memphis road trip. The two dates mentioned are in early February, to attend the International Blues Challenge, and in early May, to attend the Beale Street Music Festival.

Both dates look to be great dates for a Memphis Road trip based upon the talent that will be playing. The one catch with the February date is that it conflicts with the start of the Lowcountry Blues Bash held here in Charleston every year. However, if we field competitors to the IBC, then the part of the Blues Bash will have to be sacrificed to support our musician members.

Having been to Memphis and Beale Street earlier this year, I know it would be a great time for our members on either date. But there is one catch, after 11PM Beale Street closes to minors and is only available for adults. I don't know if that will be the case during the International Blues Challenge since they are having a Youth Showcase, and I don't know what the policy is if the minor is accompanied by a parent or guardian. Ironically, the Beale Street Music Festival doesn't actually appear to be on Beale Street, so the issue with minors may not be an issue at all.

Also, I want to draw attention to a few of our musician friends who competed in the Trident United Way Battle Of The Bands. Thanks go to TWS & Friends, and Skye Paige & The Original Recipe for competing and supporting a great cause.

That's all for now.

Upcoming Shows - 10 October 2008

We've got another great week of music lined up around the lowcountry, around the state, and even around the world.

Kicking things off locally is the Wyatt Garey Band at A Dough Re Mi on Friday. Wyatt is one the great younger musicians that we have playing with us on Tuesday nights and his band has toured all up and down the East Coast. In addition to the blues stylings that we know Wyatt for, he and his father are well respected musicians in the Gospel community and toured extensively in that area as well.

Also on Friday, our fearless band leader, Tommy Thunderfoot, will be taking his amazing bad, The Accelerators to Sumter, SC. Last time they played there, they packed the house with a few hundred fans. Needless to say, our best kept secret is finally getting out and Tommy and the band will be in great demand in the years to come. Just so I show proper love to our members, the Accelerators lineup also includes other Lowcountry Blues Club jam faithfuls: Dave Jones on Bass, Stone Cold Sarah Cole on guitar, and Sammy Derrick on drums.

And just because we're who we are, we'd thought we let you know that Shrimp City Slim will be playing the MacauSoul festival in Macaue, China, tonight, and all through the weekend and next week too. So if you just happen to be in that part of the world, stop and say hi to Shrimp. And I have to admit, I think its very cool that he's playing internationally. Shrimp, show our Asian friends how we deliver blues and soul from the Lowcountry.

The bad news is that on Saturday, the Lowcountry Blues Club was planning to have a preliminary round of a Pro-Am songwriting competition. Well, we just didn't get enough participants to sign up, so we're going to have to council this round. We're still looking to have a second round on October 18th and the winner will playing a paid gig on October 25th. All the shows are scheduled to be at A Dough Re Mi.

The good news is that Skye Paige will be playing a solo acoustic set at A Dough Re Mi on Saturday night instead of the songwriting competition.

Last, but not least, Cole Train will be playing at A Dough Re Mi on Sunday for a special early all ages show. If you're not in the loop, Cole Train is made up of several of the Lowcountry Blues Club's younger members: Stone Cold Sarah Cole, Nate Merli, and Tanner Cooper. They've recently opened for Tommy Thunderfoot & The Accelerators and Scott Holt. In addition, they've played the Music Farm and the Women in Blues Festival up in Wilmington. This young band is on the move.

But wait!!!!

That's not all...

The Cole Train show is actually going to be a celebration of Stone Cold Sarah Cole's 16th birthday. So you know the band is going to be delivering the goods at this show, and you don't want to miss it.

So here's the recap of the weekend shows.
  • Fri 10/10, Wyatt Garey Band at A Dough Re Mi
  • Fri 10/10, Tommy Thunderfoot & The Accelerators at Legacies - Sumter, SC
  • Fri 10/9, Shrimp City Slim at MacauSoul - Macau, China
  • Sat 10/12, Shrimp City Slim at MacauSoul - Macau, China
  • Sun 10/12, Cole Train at A Dough Re Mi - Stone Cold Sarah Cole's Birthday Party
  • Sun 10/12, Shrimp City Slim at MacauSoul - Macau, China

And he's what's coming up this week:
  • Mon 10/13, Shrimp City Slim at MacauSoul - Macau, China
  • Tue 10/14, Lowcountry Blues Club Jam at A Dough Re Mi
  • Tue 10/14, Shrimp City Slim at MacauSoul - Macau, China
  • Wed 10/15, Shrimp City Slim at MacauSoul - Macau, China
  • Thu 10/16, Shrimp City Slim at MacauSoul - Macau, China
Another great week of music ahead, and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone out and about.

2009 Memphis Road Trip

Just wanted to see if anyone in the club is interested in a road trip to Memphis in 2009.

One possible set of dates is Feburary 4-7 when the International Blues Challenge is held in Memphis. The Lowcountry Blues Club hopes to field contestants for the International Blues Challenge at that time. Also, there is a Youth Showcase for younger musicians at that time that may be of interest to some of our young musicians.

If anyone is interested in going as a group to Memphis, please email the lowcountrybluesclub@gmail.com with your name, number of people interested in going, and the dates that you are interested in.
