LBC news and shows

Friday the 16th is the Lowcountry Blues Club All Star Jam at Halligan's which is on Savannah Highway just south of 526 on the right, near Food Lion. with Highway 17, The Fabulous Porch Dogs, Blackwater Stills, and Smoky Weiner and some of the Hot Links. We're one link short of a pack, make of that what you will. Saturday night Shrimp City Slim and his really good band will play old school blues at Fiery Ron's on Sullivan's Island. On Tuesday The Hawkes, whose name derives from the late great violinist Hawke Morfii, play on Tuesday at the West Ashley Hometeam BBQ. They play a more Americana style but old Hawke and the rest of 'em play some blues when they want to. Hawke himself was an old fixture of the jams we used to have at the old Cumberland's in the 90's. If you haven't heard yet, Hometeam BBQ West Ashley will be our new home as of Wednesday May 5th! The jam is moving to Wednesday nights and we'll be in this great venue with a top notch sound system and stage. I hope to see all of you folks out there to support our club especially during these early "formative" weeks. I didn't want to use the term "break-in"! Anyway I hope to see people who haven't been in a while or ever! Let's all talk it up, that's how we do it! Tell your favorite blues deadbeat they can get up and play at Hometeam and look and sound good on that stage. I'm excited about it! A very off-beat band, Bradley Circus plays there Wednesday the 21st and their connection to the blues is that one of them is blues harp player Lidewidg Veenhuis. I don't think I mis-spelled that but then, how would you know? She is supposed to be a hot blues harp player, and I'm not sure how they mean that. Anyway, I doubt if you'd forget this show if you saw it. SW

Last jam at the Dough

Hi All -

We had a fabulous last jam at the Dough last night -- we had 2 and a half years of Tuesday nights there, with great music and great friends -- we'll miss it!! The Clarks are looking to buy a new place, but in the meantime, our club needs a new "home". We will not have a jam next Tuesday, and may be off the following Tuesday as well, but hope to be "back in business" at least by Tuesday, April 27th. We'll keep you informed as soon as we know something...

This Thursday, April 8, there's gonna be a great show at the Windjammer with our own Dan Wright and the New Beat, as well as A Fragile Tomorrow and Firework Show, 7pm. It's called Rock Out for Relay for Life: A Benefit for the American Cancer Society, so your $10 goes to this good cause, and you get to have a great time! On Friday, you can go out to Bowen's Island for Smoky Weiner's smokin' jam. On Sunday, Eric Lindell plays the Pour House. Rob Lowe wants you to know that he's got lots of gigs coming up, including Wednesday, April 14th and 28th: Kickball opening night, Rob and Jefferson Coker will be playing at O'Brion's on James Island. 9:30p-1a
Sounds like: Bluesy/Funky covers with some of Jefferson's originals in the mix. And that's just a few ideas for your entertainment options - check your favorite papers and websites for more...

Next week we, the Lowcountry Blues Club, will be putting on a free show at Halligan's which is located in West Ashley. Blackwater Stills (Rob Lowe), Hwy 17(Jack Downey), The Fabulous Porch Dogs, and Smoky Weiner will be on the bill and it is free!! We also are planning to have the Lowcountry Blues Allstars (that's you) to jam during the show. The music starts at 9:00 so keep it on your schedule for Friday April 16th.

Gary Erwin's next shindig will be Friday & Saturday April 23-24 (less than three weeks away!):2nd annual PEE DEE BLUES BASH in Florence, South Carolina at various clubs/restaurants plus 2 outdoor stages at Francis Marion University -- FREE! Check www.peedeebluesbash.com for more details.

If you have not paid your dues for this year please do so. Youth under 21 (Free), Adult $10, Band or Family $25, and Corporate $100. And remember, come out and jam with us on the 16th at Halligan's!

One more at the Dough!

Good news for blues club fans: One more Tuesday night jam at the Dough, this coming Tuesday night, April 6! And come early, at 7pm, if you want to sit in on the meeting while we discuss our options for a new "home". We'll miss Dave and Beth Clark, and all the staff at the Dough. They'll close for good that night after the jam, then hopefully find a place to buy and relocate to sometime soon. . .

Weekend news: There's the Friday night jam at Bowens Island with Smoky Weiner. On Sat night you can see Skye Paige and Jason & the Juggernauts (a surf band - very good!) at The Tin Roof, 9:30. Or you can see Momma and the Redemption band with JoJo at Centre Point Bar and Grill, 9pm, no cover.

Upcoming: Thursday Apr 8 at the Windjammer is Rock Out for Relay for Life, a benefit for the American Cancer Society, with Dan Wright, Firework Show, and A Fragile Tomorrow, 7pm, all for $10 -- a great lineup!! And on Apr 10 at the Pour House is Eric Lindell, 10 pm, $12. Also keep in mind the Pee Dee blues bash on Apr 23, 24 (see www.peedeebluesbash.com).

Support live music!
