Weekend plans and more

There are lots of great options for you music lovers this weekend. As previously mentioned, the long-awaited Rev. Palmer Gospel and Blues Fest is this weekend: on Saturday the 23rd from noon to 7pm, to be exact. Contact Ranny Garey if you'd like to volunteer in exchange for a free ticket (gibsonran@yahoo.com). Otherwise get your advance tix at etix.com for $10, or $15 at the gate.

There are two great Piccolo Spoleto events at A Dough Re Mi, as well. On Fri the 22nd, it's the Mattie Phifer Band, 8pm. And on Sat the 23rd it's the fabulous Shrimp City Slim and Miss Wanda Johnson, back in town from tours in China and France, among other places, also 8pm. Go to piccolospoleto.com for info and tix, or bring cash to the door (if it's not sold out). Another Piccolo option is on Sunday: see Shrimp and Miss Wanda at Bowens Island, 4pm -- sure to be a packed house!

And one more option for Fri night the 22nd, if you're up for a road trip, is to see Tommy Thunderfoot and the Accelerators in Sumter at the Iris Festival: sumtersc.gov/VisitingUs/Festivals_Iris.aspx .

During the week you've got the Tuesday night jam at A Dough Re Mi starting 8ish. And you've got Wednesday nights at Awendaw Green or at Bowens Island. So get out there, and have some fun!
